Last night, LCF presented the best and most exciting work from the class of 2013 on the catwalk at The Yard in East London.
Walking the catwalk were models casted by the LCF Loves You campaign, representing diversity and wearing a diverse range of innovative designs. Designed, produced and perfected by 49 students selected from across all of LCF’s BA and FdA Design courses, the garments, hats, shoes, gloves and jewellery, proved that each graduate was more than ready to take on the fashion industry with their own unique vision.
Professor Frances Corner OBE, Head of LCF, said:
“Looking at the amazing talent showcased across graduate season, I am confident our students have the potential to become future fashion industry leaders.”
Streamed live via the LCF website, and attended by a crowd of fashion experts, enthusiasts and industry players, the show was a chance for the graduates to celebrate all that they had achieved in their time at the college. In attendance were designer, Pam Hogg, and Vogue’s Jessica Bumpus, who closed the show by presenting awards to leading graduates.
Pam Hogg said:
“It’s great to see a really good show like this, and one that’s so diverse. I’m glad to be here to hand out the award to the winner of the best collection of the year.”
The young designer to take the prize for Best Collection was Alexis Housden, BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Menswear, whose collection played with femininity to invoke luxury, whilst undercutting this softness with masculine silhouettes and sharp tailoring.
The Fashion Innovation Award was claimed jointly by two sets of collaborators. Rebecca Morter, BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development, Helena Dillon, BA (Hons) Cordwainers Accessories: Product Design and Development, and Marie Gallagher, BA (Hons) Fashion Contour, won with their collaborative collection, which explored the historical position of the female body through cage-like structures that both restricted and revealed. Sisters, Nikita and Tina Sutradhar, BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear, also claimed the prize with their collection which featured clean lines and graphic details, and conrasted deep colours with white and blue-grey.
The Off Catwalk Award was won by Alexandra Druzhinin, BA (Hons) Fashion Jewellery, whose transformable pieces, made of laser cut Perspex and metal, were inspired by Moscow’s St Basil Cathedral.
After the catwalk show, guests journeyed to the private view of the 2013 Graduate Exhibition, where they celebrated its closing night.
Commendations were also given to:
- Christina Tiran, BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear, and Victoria Rowley, BA (Hons) Fashion Textiles.
- Thomas Wickens, BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring.
- Yunhui An, BA (Hons)Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear.
